Back by Popular demand - Havenlink Takes to the Water for a Second Year

Piloted in 2008, Havenlink was greeted with such enthusiasm and positive feedback by both residents and visitors, that the service is being repeated in readiness for the Summer season.

Operating every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Friday 26th June 2009 until 27th of September 2009, the expanded service will now operate two vessels.

The first vessel will commence from this year’s additional port of call Lawrenny and will travel down river via stops at Burton, Hobbs Point, Neyland, Hazelbeach, Milford Haven (Mackerel Stage), Angle, then Dale.  After a one hour break at Dale, it will then return upriver via Angle, Milford Haven, Hazel Beach, Neyland, Hobbs Point, Burton then Lawrenny.

The second vessel start from Dale and will travel up river via Angle, Milford Haven, Hazel Beach, Neyland, Hobbs Point, Burton and then Lawrenny. After a one hour stop at Lawrenny, it will then return down river via Burton, Hobbs Point, Neyland, Hazel Beach, Milford Haven, Angle then Dale.

Whether you are walking the coast path, cycling or just fancy a day out, Havenlink provides the opportunity to leave the car behind for stress free travel. The Havenlink water transport service has been designed to be integrated into existing transport links, including the coastal bus service promoted by Pembrokeshire Greenways.

Due to tidal restrictions in some locations, it is not possible to call at all pontoons on certain days. Timetables for the service will be displayed on the pontoons as well as being available from Tourist Information Centres. The following websites will also carry the timetables and related information: Pembrokeshire Greenways, Milford Haven Port Authority, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, PLANED South West Wales Tourism Partnership, Visit Pembrokeshire and Visit Wales. The service is led by Pembrokeshire Greenways, in conjunction with Milford Haven Port Authority, who commissioned the pilot in 2008, along with additional partners Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority PLANED and South West Wales Tourism Partnership.

The service will once again operate using contributions from the partner organisations, but it is hoped that grant funding will be obtained to enable the service to be enhanced for 2010. Rhian Higgins, the Pembrokeshire Greenways Officer promoting the scheme commented ‘We are delighted to be able to offer an expanded service for 2009. We still have a long way to go, but the more people that support and use the service, the more opportunities there will be to develop it in the future.

Whatever your quest: the start of a walking holiday, showcasing the area to visitors, a special event or planning an adventure on your doorstep without using the car, Havenlink is an opportunity for all.

Please note that only Hobbs Point and Milford Haven are accessible at all states of the tide.  For this reason, it important to check the available times & destinations for the day/ days you plan to travel.
